Month note - March 2025

Irish time of the year again, parent-teacher meetings, agile leadership courses…

Posted on:

March is always a busy time, with work ramping up for Q2 and the usual St. Patrick’s Day happenings. This year we had:

  • Enterprise Ireland advisory panels.
  • A lunch at the NZ Parliament buildings, courtesy of The Irish Business Network NZ and others, donating to The Tara Trust.
  • An evening event at the Irish Embassy - with lots of good ceol, great craic.

🇮🇪 It is lovely to gather and recognise the potency and power of a strong and long reaching network (18,000kms long in fact ✊), and we were joined by Minister Jerry Buttimer throughout. It was lovely to meet him, and it turns out he knows my sis as both were at Maynooth University at the same time - small world!

All that greenery: Quick pic with Minister Jerry Buttimer at the annual St.Patrick's Day parade and concert down at Wellington waterfront.

☁️ On a lighter note, we had our first parent-teacher meeting with the lovely local school team. Our lil’ brill 5 year old has been excelling in reading, writing since she started; we both left the classroom grinning like the proverbial 🐱!

The work/mahi

I finished an Evolutionary Leadership course out of Evolve2B. It was thoroughly engaging with a lot of learning (and indeed, unlearning) for me.

The course provides frameworks and practical techniques to diagnose and evolve organisational culture, build psychological safety and trust, and overcome resistance to change.

An abiding mantra related to how we can’t change anyone else (and to try to do so can be damaging), but we can make choices to create a better environment and to inspire others. The mindset shift, and practices promoting a people-centric approach, fostering engagement and ownership really chimed with me - I recommend 💯.

The rest

Spotted on the interwebs this month:

  • 💻 Really likes this piece about bringing back ‘personal computing’; the thrust of which points to more (wonderfully) innocent times online.
  • Been sharing these Product Compass Resources with our product cohorts across the orgainsation.
  • In terms of research capability we are definitely a little light in the technology end of things, so it is good to point our talented teams to this resource bookmark list which has great overview of topics and also reminds me too of how handy Notion is for this type of stuff.

The play

🎵 I went to see Kneecap live at the fab new Meow Nui venue in Wellington. I am late to the party with this crew but was positively surprised by how much i enjoyed this - the energy, the vibes. A real eclectic mix of a Wellington crowd too.

⛳ I took a ‘day off’ with our wee one over school holiday which coincided with the final round of The Masters. What a spectacle it was and even she was hooked. I was exhausted by the end of it just watching!..and yes, we did get out and about afterwards to balance our ‘screen lean’ earlier in the day.

Sin e an scéal (that’s the story)😀.

Laters.
